THINGS OF BEAUTY p4: GUITARz
This post should be called musicians of beauty, because it features three musicians that I am hardcore admiring at the moment.
DOUG WAMBLE
Doug Wamble is an NYC based guitarist who hails from Memphis, TN. I’ve been listening to his extraordinary playing a lot recently because of an OSSIA collab project that will drop on Friday (8/7). Doug has every musical quality you could ask for: technical precision, sonic imagination, and serious, serious soul. His playing generates a blast of serotonin to the brain. During the pandemic, Doug and his wife, Morgan James, have performed weekly concerts via live stream. Every second of their content is worth devouring!
What can you even say about this guy? Truly amazing. Emotional depth and intelligence communicated through graceful command of the instrument. He makes the guitar sing like a human voice.
BRUSHY ONE STRING
An artist working on a completely different axis than the two above. This is less about the virtuosity of guitar playing and more about the virtuosity of creative thought. I love the way this music emerges out of limitation. It is minimalist in the best way, ie, there is nothing more there than what is essential. Artistry to live by.
