It seems I’m about 10 years late to this particular party, but this blew my mind. I’m into authenticity lately, whatever that means, and this book has hundreds of mental jumping off points for exploring that. Highly recommend. Easily digestible chunks of thought fodder. It’ll for sure be a reference I go back to again and again.

LISTENING:

I love these episodes. This is a recurring segment on the Performance Today podcast produced by American Public Media called Piano Puzzler. They’re downright delightful. In fact, they’re sometimes too delightful so I have to save them up until I’m in a good enough mood. This is a great example of the style of the podcast. Bruce Adolph hides a familiar tune in the style of a classical composer and, I honestly don’t know where they find people this lovely, but invariably some cute-sounding, music-loving, 60something (in this episode’s case; two of them!) demonstrate the palpable thrill of being on Public Radio and sharing their knowledge about and love for music.

WATCHING:

I’ve been editing OpCulture videos like it’s my job. Wait… ;)

ENJOYING:

New James Blake always gets me excited. I love him. I once went to a concert of his in NYC alone and silently, soberly danced the night before an audition.

This song is from 2017 but it's new to me!

This one is a 2020 jam!

I opened my MacBook from 2011 (!) and went down a crazy memory journey, this was by far the most pleasant rediscovery!
